Pope Francis made an unscheduled visit to Amatrice, the Italian town hardest hit by the earthquake in the summer, on Tuesday.
A total of 298 people were killed when a 6.2 magnitude earthquake struck Italy on August 24; 236 of them were from Amatrice and the surrounding area. While efforts continue to rebuild the region, even now many people still live in tents, as so much damage was caused. Upon his arrival the Pope went to a temporary school and spent time with the students. He also met up with family members, who had lost loved ones in the earthquake, as well as elderly residents rendered homeless.
